Invoking other than Allah Subhana wa taala

Surah Yunus: 106

And invoke not besides Allah, any that will neither profit you, nor hurt you,

but if (in case) you did so,

you shall certainly be one of the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers).

Invoking other than Allah Subhana wa taala

Many invoke than Allah subhana wa taala for assistance. Many would say it is correct to ask the dead, seeking intercession from those who have passed away or seek assistance from Jinn and ask RasulAllah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam for intercession as well.

 Quran and Sunnah

Surah Yunus: 106

“And invoke not besides Allah, any that will neither profit you, nor hurt you, but if (in case) you did so, you shall certainly be one of the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers).

Surah Faatir:22.

Nor are (alike) the living (believers) and the dead (disbelievers). Verily, Allah makes whom He will hear,

but you cannot make hear those who are in graves.

What should we be doing?

Surah Al Araaf 3.

[Say (O Muhammad Sallalahu Alayhi Wasallam) to these idolaters (pagan Arabs) of your folk:]

Follow what has been sent down unto you from your Lord (the Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad’s Sunnah),

and follow not any Auliya’  (protectors and helpers, etc. who order you to associate partners in worship with Allah), besides Him (Allah)

Little do you remember!

Quran and Sunnah are clear about invoking, calling upon and asking Allah subhana wa taala alone.

For purposes of clarity this does not mean you cannot ask a pious person from making dua for you, whilst that person is alive.

We cannot invoke or request assistance from those who have passed away or from the jinn for that matter.

There is no such practice in the Sunnah for such and put mildly, it is nothing else but shirk.
